Mudavadi’s party denies Jubilee deal

Two out of the nine parties reported to have signed a post-coalition agreement with President-elect Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday denied entering into any deal with the with Jubilee coalition.

Mr Dan Ameyo, the secretary-general of the United Democratic Forum (UDF), which is associated with Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi of the Amani coalition, said the party had not signed any pact with Jubilee.

“UDF Party wishes to clarify that it has not signed any agreement with Jubilee,” said Mr Ameyo in a brief statement.

But Vihiga MP- elect Yusuf Chanzu defended Mr Mudavadi’s move saying it was part of UDF’s wider strategy to ensure that it is included in the next government.

Mr Mudavadi, who contested the presidency on an Amani coalition ticket and came third, was one of the leaders that met Mr Kenyatta when the agreement was signed. Muungano party, which also signed a pact with Jubilee, said its national executive council had not ratified the post-election coalition pact.

Its chairman Tito Muunda said the team will meet to discus the pact.
