Kajiado South MP Katoo ole Metito has been appointed the new Internal Security minister in a Cabinet reshuffle.
President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga also appointed Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba the new Sports minister.
He replaces Paul Otuoma who has been moved to the Local Government Ministry.
Gwassi MP John Mbadi has been appointed as assistant minister in the Prime Minister's office.
The holder of that office, Alfred Khangati, has been moved to the Ministry of Internal Security in a similar capacity.
James Gesami has been reinstated as Medical Services assistant minister.
The West Mugirango MP had been suspended after he was charged with misusing the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) money in his constituency.
Three weeks ago, the High Court in Kisii acquitted him of the charges.
Until his appointment, Mr Ole Metito was the Regional Development assistant minister.
The Internal Security docket fell vacant following the death of George Saitoti and his assistant Orwa Ojode in a plane crash on June 10.
Mr Ole Metito's Kajiado South constituency, renamed Loitokitok, borders that of the late Saitoti's, where a by-election held on Monday saw the election of Moses ole Sakuda as the new Kajiado North MP.
Mr Otuoma's appointment as Local Government minister comes after Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi resigned from the post to contest the presidency in a United Democratic Forum (UDF) party.
The Sabatia MP also announced that he had left ODM.
Before Mr Otuoma' appointment, Regional Development minister Fred Gumo was doubling up as the Local Government minister in an acting capacity.
Previously, the Funyula MP was the Youth Affairs and Sports minister.
