The Andrew Ligale-led Interim Independent Boundary Review Commission has announced it demarcated boundaries for the 80 new constituencies it created as its tenure ends Saturday.

The fresh twist comes a day after a court had ruled that the new constituencies were not created in line with the set out law.

In his ruling on Friday, Justice Daniel Musinga contended that Mr Ligale’s Interim Independent Boundary Review Commission did not fully comply with the law in coming up with the constituencies.

According to the judge the commission ought to have clearly determined the physical boundaries of the new constituencies.

“Without clear borders it is impossible to know the basic information like the number of voters in the constituency,” said the judge.

The controversy surrounding the creation of the new constituencies has strained relations within the coalition government, with Prime Minister Raila Odinga said to have skipped a Cabinet committee meeting that was supposed to be attended by President Kibaki at Harambee House.

The term of IIBRC ended on Saturday, two years after it had been constituted. The Commission had handed their report to Parliament's committee on Justice and Legal Affairs on Friday evening.
