Disagreements between Deputy Prime Ministers Uhuru Kenyatta and Musalia Mudavadi persisted Monday night after 25 MPs said there was nothing for free in politics.

The MPs allied to Mr Kenyatta stood their ground and insisted Jubilee Alliance’s presidential candidate must be selected through a delegates conference and not through a boardroom deal.

Mr Kenyatta hosted the MPs at Panafric Hotel for a closed door night meeting that lasted for more than five hours.

When they emerged after 10 pm, Garsen MP Danson Mungatana gave a terse statement to the media on behalf of the MPs.

“We have met and we are insisting to use the delegates to choose our flag bearer. That is our position,” said Mr Mungatana.

Mr Kenyatta did not address the media on the issue.

Among those present were Cabinet Ministers Yusuf Haji, Jamleck Kamau Naomi Shabaan, Esther Murugi and MPs Ephraim Maina, Kabando wa Kabando, Ceciliy Mbarire,Walter Nyambati, Fernand Waititu, Lewis Nguyai, Lee Kinyanjui, Mithika Linturi, Clement Waibara and William Kabogo.
