The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has cleared 13 candidates to represent the party in the September 17 by-elections in two constituencies and 11 civic areas.

ODM chairman Henry Kosgey and secretary general Anyang’ Nyong’o Thursday presented nomination certificates to Agostinho Neto (Ndhiwa) and Peter ole Mositet (Kajiado North) to contest on the ODM ticket.

The officials said that ODM will put up a vigorous campaign for the two candidates.

Prime Minister Raila Odinga is expected to tour Kajiado North constituency Saturday to drum up support for the ODM candidate.

Mr Mositet was picked after Moses ole Sakuda, who flew the ODM flag in the last elections, defected to The National Alliance party (TNA).

“On Saturday, the PM will be in Kajiado North to campaign for our candidate. We are taking Kajiado North seriously and we know Eng Mositet is strong enough having been the runners up in our 2007 nominations,” Mr Kosgey said.

Prof Nyong’o asked  party supporters to conduct themselves peacefully warning that violence will not be tolerated.

“We must learn to restrain ourselves from any form of violence. I urge all our winning and losing aspirants to come together,” Prof Nyong’o said.

Other candidates nominated by the party to contest in the civic elections are Jevis Ochieng (Wire), Bernard Oduor (Wang’chieng), Eliakim Ochieng (East Kadem), Daniel Gonja (Kaliangombe) and Joseph Epeyon (Kaptega).

Also cleared are Andrew Amunze (Kapkoi), Reuben Nyangweso (Bukura), Charlese Sagwe (Nyaramba/Nyangoge), Margaret Owejee (Gembe East) and Causetencia Tanui (Market Ward).
