The Orange Democratic Movement will hold its countrywide party elections in December this year, Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said.

Mr Odinga said the party will on Monday unveil a programme on how the elections will be conducted.

The PM said the party elections will be used to forge a strong team in preparation for the 2012 general elections

“We had prepared for the party elections early enough but the process was stopped after some individuals went to court. I can assure you that things are on course and we are ready for a countrywide party elections come December,” said Mr Odinga.

He was speaking at the weekend at Wang Arot Village, Rarieda constituency, during the burial of his cousin Mrs Benta Aloo.

The PM said voting at the sub-location levels will be conducted using identity cards only.

“You will be required to obtain a national identity card only to vote at the grass root where 60 party officials who include women, men and the youths will be elected,” said Mr Odinga.

Mr Odinga said the decision to allow party members use national identity cards in the election had unanimously been agreed on.

The Prime Minister said he was not afraid of political alliances being mooted by prospective presidential candidate.

“Am confident that with proper party structures from the grassroots to the national levels, I will beat the opponents pants down at the ballot box,” said Mr Odinga.

He was accompanied by MP’s Nicholas Gumbo (Rarieda) and John Mbadi (Gwassi).
