Offices set aside for governors may change
The offices identified to host governors last November were interim and are likely to change after consultations with the elected individuals, the Transition Authority has said.
Kinuthia Wamwangi, the authority’s head, told the Nation on Tuesday the Assumption of Office Committees in some of the 47 counties had changed some of the offices identified for governors and county executive committees.
Mr Wamwangi has also invited the governors to consult the authority over the offices.
“We did not make permanent decisions for them so they can come and tell us ‘We want to put up a building here’ and we can give them seed capital to start constructing the buildings.”
The authority has set March 20, as the tentative date for swearing-in governors and members of the county assembly.
Mr Wamwangi was reacting to a statement from the Government Spokesman on Monday warning against plans to have Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero hosted at the offices formerly occupied by the Prime Minister.
Mr Muthui Kariuki had said the office on Harambee Avenue had been set aside for the Deputy President.
“Anybody who may have any other information contrary to this should treat it as erroneous. Visits by unauthorised parties purporting to inspect the premises will not be entertained.”
Mr Kariuki told the Nation on Tuesday that the authority ought to have known the Office of the Prime Minister was bought and refurbished by the government as the office for the deputy president.
But Mr Wamwangi brushed the matter aside, saying that the Nairobi governor will have his office at City Hall, and that the decision was reached long before the Government Spokesman’s statement.
He added that governors shouldn’t concentrate on luxury in setting up their offices but on provision of services.
