PM Odinga visits Kisumu after insecurity protests

Prime Minister Raila Odinga is scheduled to meet top Nyanza security officials on Thursday to discuss the rising cases of insecurity in the city.

In just over one week, Kisumu has witnessed three deaths caused by criminal activities, which sparked off riots resulting to loss of four lives in violent protests. Read (Police brutality cited in Kisumu deaths)

PM Odinga is also expected to visit grieving families and also address disturbed residents concerned with rising insecurity cases.

Mr Odinga’s visit follows Wednesday's tour of Medical Services Minister Anyang' Nyong'o who called for investigations into the deaths.

On Tuesday night, the director of a security company, Mr Fanuel Marwa was slashed to death by an armed group of five men near Uzima College.

The deceased was headed for the airport to drop-off a staff member for night shift duties.

A day earlier, activities in Kisumu came to a standstill with the shock murder of ODM parliamentary aspirant Shem Onyango Kwega along Obote road. Read (Police rule out politics as motive for Kwega's murder)

Kwega was shot along with his wife who is still admitted at the Aga Khan Hospital.

Kwega's murder sparked protests resulting to deaths of four protesters.

Last Saturday, a senior researcher with KEMRI/CDC, Dr Joseph Odhiambo was killed by unknown assailants as he drove to his house in Tom Mboya estate.
