Police find 12 ballots on roadside

  • Two of three ballots for the senate marked in favour of Ms Margaret Wanjiru were also recovered. The third was unmarked.
  • The last two papers were for the county assembly representative, and while one was marked in favour of Mr Amos Arombo, the other was blank.

Police on Wednesday found ballot papers dumped on the roadside at Ruai on the outskirts of Nairobi.

The 12 ballot papers were similar to the ones used by voters in the Monday General Election.

The papers were stamped spoilt and preliminary investigations showed they had been cast at Mountain View Primary School.

There were three ballots for the gubernatorial election. One was marked in favour of Mr Ferdinand Waititu, the other for Alice Chepkurui, while the third was unmarked.

Three ballots were for the Women’s Representative election. Two of them were marked in favour of Ms Silvia Leah Mingora and the other was blank.

Two of three ballots for the senate marked in favour of Ms Margaret Wanjiru were also recovered. The third was unmarked.

The tenth ballot was for national assembly marked in favour of Mr Amin Walji.

The last two papers were for the county assembly representative, and while one was marked in favour of Mr Amos Arombo, the other was blank.

Kayole OCPD Samuel Mukindia said the ballots were stuffed in a plastic bag and dumped on the roadside.

“The public informed us and we collected the papers,” Mr Mukindia said.

Some politicians who contested the Monday polls have made allegations of rigging.
