The Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate, Deputy President as well as the Chief Justice will earn the same salary if new proposals by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission are adopted.

The senior government officials have been placed under Level Two in a draft remuneration structure for State officers released yesterday by the commission headed by Ms Sarah Serem.

According to the structure, only the President, in Level One, will earn more than any State officer.

Inviting the public

On Wednesday, the commission said in an advertisement that the new structure would be subjected to a job evaluation for purposes of setting and reviewing the State officers’ remuneration.

“The commission is therefore inviting the public to study the remuneration structure and send their comments, inputs and memorandum to our offices not later than June 8,” read the statement.

According to the proposals, the Leader of the Majority in Parliament, Leader of the Minority, Deputy Speakers of the National Assembly and Senate, the Attorney-General and Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces have all been placed in Level Three.
