Presidential hopeful Raphael Tuju on Monday dismissed political alliances based on tribal affiliations when he took his campaign to Nakuru County.

Mr Tuju, who also opened offices for his Party of Action, said such strategy would divide Kenyans.

The former Cabinet minister said that time was ripe for Kenyans to rise above tribal politics and focus on individual ideologies.

“We are tired of campaigns based on tribal alliances because they disintegrate the country,” he said.

Interrogate all candidates

He noted that political endorsements by politicians were an outdated scheme of identifying leaders.

He urged Kenyans to interrogate all candidates, including their historical background.

“The last General Election resulted in chaos because some leaders were too anxious because of their endorsement but when they did not succeed, they incited their supporters to demand that there would be no peace unless they took over power,” he said.

If elected, Mr Tuju said, he would turn around the economy by reviving industries and creating jobs for millions of the youth.
