Eldoret North MP William Ruto expressed confidence that the case against him would not be confirmed as he arrived from The Hague on Sunday night.

Mr Ruto, who arrived in the country at 8.05pm, said his defence lawyers did a good job while presenting evidence.

He said he was innocent and whatever International Criminal Court prosecutor Luis Moreno-Ocampo had as evidence were all lies.

“I want to thank the defence team for a job well done while demonstrating my innocence,” said Mr Ruto, who was welcomed by Cabinet ministers Samuel Poghisio and Chirau Ali Mwakwere, and other MPs.

He said the ICC now has a clear picture of what happened. “The truth that came out was truly amazing,” he added.

He said that poverty had led some witnesses to peddle lies so that they could live a comfortable life outside the country, adding that the matter needs to be addressed.

“We have been victimised because of poverty and lack of jobs. As a country, we need to focus on fighting the vices by creating employment,” he said.
