United Republican Party leader William Ruto on Friday took his campaigns to Kisii County where he drummed up support for his presidential bid.

Mr Ruto attributed the escalating cases of insecurity in the country to poor leadership.

He hit out at Internal Security minister George Saitoti, saying he was doing little to beef up security along Kenyan borders.

The Eldoret North MP claimed that rising cases of cattle rustling along the Sotik/Chepilat border were due to the laxity of police.

He said outlawed groups like the Mombasa Republican Council were also emerging because of rampant insecurity.

“There are more than 10 road blocks from Kisii to Kericho doing nothing on the road, leaving cattle rustlers to frustrate residents,” he said.

He accused police of failing to stop cattle rustlers whom, he said, were responsible for breeding animosity between communities living along the common border.

“As leaders, we blame the government for allowing a few people to cause trouble and stir chaos among communities,” he said

Mr Ruto at the same time asked Kisii residents not to consider tribe while voting and urged them to vote for leaders who can unite all Kenyans. He asked Kenyans to vote in a young and energetic President who can address challenges facing them.

“Do not vote for the sake of party inclinations, tribe or religion, vote with a view that we want focused leaders who can make Kenya move forward”.

Former MPs Joel Onyancha, and Omingo Magara led Mr Ruto’s entourage in a series of rallies at Tabaka, Gucha, Kenyenya and Nyamache markets.
