Shift focus from The Hague Six, PNU urged

PNU has been asked to focus on judicial reforms instead of the Ocampo Six.

Immigration minister Otieno Kajwang’ said the efforts to stop the International Criminal Court process is a waste of time.

“What the PNU side of the government is doing is like preaching to the already converted,” said Mr Kajwang’.

He was reacting to the move by government to file a case at the ICC challenging the admissibility of the cases against the six post-election violence suspects. (READ: ICC Judges receive Kenya's request to strike out cases)

Speaking in his Mbita constituency, he also criticised a petition seeking to charge three ODM lawmakers for perpetrating the chaos by calling for mass action after the announcement of the 2007 presidential election results. (READ: Lawyer wants ministers charged over poll chaos)

In the petition, Mr Njenga Mwangi says ministers Kajwang’ and Anyang’ Nyong’o and assistant minister Elizabeth Ongoro played a role in crimes such as rape, murder and forceful evictions committed in Mathare and Kibera slums.

Prove their innocence

Fisheries minister Amason Kingi has urged the Ocampo Six to prove their innocence before the ICC judges.

He spoke at Mjanaheri Primary School in his Magarini constituency where he presented Sh200,000 to build three classrooms.

Cotu secretary-general Francis Atwoli said he was sympathetic to Head of Public Service Francis Muthaura, whom he said is an old man who has opted to remain silent.

Mr Atwoli was speaking at the proposed Ambassador Pamela Girls Secondary School, Urianda, in Mbita where he helped to raise Sh7 million.
