Study shows ‘no violence on ICC Six’

Most Kenyans believe there would be no violence if the International Criminal Court commits the Kenyan cases over post-election violence to trial.

A report by the African Union Panel of Eminent African Personalities said 59 per cent of Kenyans are of the view there would be no violence if the six suspects were committed to trial.

In a survey by research firm South Consulting, the respondents were asked: ‘‘If ICC trials take place, how likely do you think it is to produce violence?’’
Unlikely

Fifty nine per cent of those interviewed said the decision was unlikely to spark violence while 36 per cent said the move could lead to chaos.

In a report released on Tuesday, the Dialogue Team of the Kenya National Dialogue and Reconciliation (KNDR) added 78 per cent of Kenyans supported the war against Al-Shabaab.

High cost of living was named as main problem facing the country by 71 per cent of respondents. Fifty five per cent want elections held in December.

Some 77 per cent were satisfied with Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Judiciary (65), police (40), political parties (36).
