Vice-President Kalonzo Musyoka on Monday said that Prime Minister Raila Odinga was not one of those he would talk to on a possible alliance. Read (Why Raila, Uhuru and Ruto are keen on new alliances)

Mr Musyoka ruled out any talks with PM Odinga or the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) saying the party did not have “like-minded” leadership.

“I would also like to state boldly that when I speak of like minded people to work with, they do not include ODM. The key pillar of my campaign will be to seek peace and unity of all Kenyans,” Mr Musyoka said.

VP Musyoka who was unveiling the Wiper Democratic Movement elections board and receiving defectors said that those who were saying that he would enter into talks with Mr Odinga were “putting words” in his mouth.

There have been reports that Mr Musyoka was ready to hold talks with Mr Odinga on a possible alliance.

Politicians have intensified talks on possibility of alliances ahead of a December 4 deadline to deposit any coalition agreements with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

However, Mr Musyoka said that his Wiper party will focus on winning the elections even as it talks with those within the G7 Alliance.

Mr Musyoka said that the party will undertake a free, fair and transparent nomination ruling out any possibility of direct nomination for any candidate.

He added that all aspirants will enjoy a level playing ground in accordance with the party principles that uphold democracy.

“Our objective is to win the next elections and today (Monday) as we unveil the elections board we have began a journey that will lead us to the election of Kenya’s next president. All aspirants should be assured that they will be treated in a free, fair and transparent manner. Only this board has the powers to issue nomination certificates,” Mr Musyoka said.

VP Musyoka officially received, to Wiper, Kitui West MP Charles Nyamai who was previously a member of Water Minister Charity Ngilu’s National Rainbow Coalition.

He also hosted a group of leaders from Bungoma who said that they were moving from ODM and Ford-Kenya to Wiper.

At the same time, Mr Musyoka assured all students who started their final exams on Monday that the government was prioritising their security.

He added that the government was doing this to safeguard the future of the students.

“The future of this country belongs to the Kenyan youth and as they start their examinations, we wish them all the best and assure all candidates that the government is offering them all the security needed for the process to run smoothly,” Mr Musyoka said.
