Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday reached out to members of the Akorino religious community to support his presidential bid.

Mr Musyoka asked members of the sect to pray for him and Kenya ahead of the General Election.

“Pray that the coming elections are peaceful. I also need your votes and prayers” Mr Musyoka told sect members at KICC during a book launch on the Akorino religion.

The book, "In search of an identity: Akorino Community demystified," reveals the history of the community since its inception as an indigenous Christian faith involved in the struggle for independence.

It's authored by a Nairobi lawyer and Akorino follower Abraham Macharia Prince.

Mr Musyoka said that his presidency will stand for the full implementation of the Constitution, promote peace and fight against poverty.

“Poverty has continued to devastate our people and this is the war I want my presidency to spearhead and eradicate” Mr Musyoka added.

Mr Musyoka assured the Akorino community that his presidency will ensure that their rights and those of other minority groups are respected in line with the provisions of the Constitution.

He lauded the sect for discarding some its earlier practices that hindered the progress of their members such as taking children to school or to hospital.

At the ceremony, Ahadi Trust chief executive Dr Stanley Kamau urged the government to consider some of the Akorino adherents for appointment to state position, saying that they were patriotic, committed, qualified and hardworking.
