New Ford Kenya leader Eugene Wamalwa has questioned his presidential challenger Musalia Mudavadi's track record saying his tenure as Local Government minister was poor.

Mr Wamalwa wondered how the Deputy Prime Minister will change the country when he could not transform a single Ministry.

"If he did not reform most markets in the country which are in deplorable conditions can you expect him to change the country?,” he asked traders at Kitale municipal market where he kicked off a caravan to traverse Trans Nzoia Country to drum support for his State House bid.

Mr Mudavadi has declared his interest to contest the presidency on a United Democratic Forum (UDF) ticket.

He resigned as Local Government minister after announcing he had left ODM.

The Justice minister criticised a section of leaders who are championing for the postponement of the March elections date saying they don’t mean well for the country.

“The March election date has been unanimously agreed upon by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and even the two principals (President Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga) and whoever is propagating for its change is merely afraid of a defeat come that date,” he said.

The Saboti MP blamed the leadership of rival Ford Kenya party, which he accused of using violence in the concluded civic by-elections in Trans County to rig elections in favour of their candidate at Kaptega ward.

“We reprimand our friends who feared to accept change and instead used violence against our supporters in the concluded civic by-elections."

Youthful leadership

He also thanked President Kibaki and Mr Odinga for appointing Budalangi MP Ababu Namwamba to the Cabinet saying it is a sign that the two leaders are keen on handing over power to youthful leadership.

“The two principals have finally realised that this country needs youthful leaders to spearhead its reform agenda,” he said.

He urged locals to support his presidential bid saying that just like his late brother, he has fresh ideas that will transform this country.

“I will conclude Michael’s dream which was to have a reformed Kenya where peace and justice prevails for the sake of economic transformation,” he said.

Mr Wamalwa promised to provide a formula for sharing seats within various communities in the cosmopolitan County for the sake of cohesion.
