Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM) party delegates on Monday endorsed Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as the presidential candidate.

Nominated MP Shakila Abdalla proposed the endorsement that was seconded by John Cheruiyot, a delegate from Nandi County.

Earlier, Wiper Secretary General Mutula Kilonzo said the objectives of the conference were to endorse Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka as its presidential candidate and also to endorse the Coalition for Reform and Democracy (Cord) pre-election deal.

Cord members including Prime Minister Raila Odinga of ODM, Ford-Kenya's Moses Wetangula and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led by former South Mugirango MP Omingo Magara attended the meeting.

The pact involving the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), Wiper Democratic Movement (Wiper), Ford Kenya and 11 other political parties was signed at the Kenyatta International Conference Centre, Nairobi last Tuesday.

In the agreement, Mr Musyoka and Prime Minister Mr Odinga did not announce who would be the presidential candidate or running mate.

Other parties in that signed the Cord alliance include the National Rainbow Coalition (Narc) led by Water Minister Charity Ngilu, PDP led by Omingo Magara, and Kenya Social Congress (KSC) of legislator George Anyona, who died in 2003.
