More than 30 herdsmen have been killed at Lokori division in Turkana South District by suspected Pokot cattle raiders.
An unknown number of the raiders attacked Lokubae village on Tuesday afternoon and made away with over 700 cattle.
A senior intelligence officer on Friday said scores of the herdsmen are also believed to have been seriously injured during the raid
The herdsmen regrouped on Wednesday and pursued the rustlers and caught up with them on Thursday morning at Suguta Valley.
A fierce fight ensued but the herdsmen were overpowered after they ran out of ammunition, said the intelligence source.
Over 30 of the herdsmen were gunned down and scores injured.
On Friday evening, a contingent of security personnel was dispatched to the Suguta Valley to pursue the raiders.
A resident in the area said the number of casualities could go up as other people believed to have been shot were still missing.
Turkana South district commissioner Julius Kavita and the area police boss Moses Lubisia toured the area on Thursday to check the magnitude of the raid.
