Three killed by armed robbers
Three people were killed on Wednesday in Transmara District by armed gangsters.
Retired chief Lawarance Kipkuro, Mr Jonstone Tongei and Mr Gideon Nyamosi were attacked as they ferried bags of cement from Kisii on Tuesday night. Deputy police boss Francis Mwangi said they were robbed of Sh6,000.
“The driver escaped with head injuries. He was also robbed of a mobile phone and Sh2,500. The driver is the one who informed us about the incident,” said Mr Mwangi.
According to the driver, Mr Josphat Momanyi, the robbers seemed to know the occupants of the lorry.
Residents led by Mr Simon Ole Masi protested against rising insecurity in the area. Elsewhere, a manager at a ranch owned by a former MP was gunned down by robbers in Laikipia East District.
Mr Stephen Mwangi Muchemi was shot as he tried to lock the door of the farmhouse so that the robbers would not enter.
Mr Njoroge Mwangi, the manager’s son, escaped unhurt during the incident in which the robbers stole mobile phones, cash and other household items.
Body parts suspected to belong to three people were yesterday exhumed from a mass grave at Karima forest in Nyeri South District.
Some engineers discovered the decomposed body parts as they were installing a communication booster for a local mobile phone company at Karima Hill.
Work was suspended to pave way for police investigations. The site supervisor Juma Abongo said staff from his company stopped working after the discovery.
“We first noticed something that appeared like a stone and then we spotted the intestines and legs before we stopped digging,” he said.
Bute constituency MP Mohamed Hussein lost three relatives to cattle rustlers in Isiolo District in the last four days.
Two of them, a man and his son, were shot dead near Kashuru at the border of Isiolo and Meru North districts.
After the burial, the legislator received news that his aunt had also been killed by people who had stolen her goats in Isiolo West.
