Two primary school heads, who reported to work late have been demoted.

The Teso district education officer, Mr Indiatsi Mabale, said that the headteachers of Osuret and Onyunyuru primary schools in Teso North District were subsequently replaced.

Speaking to the Nation by phone, the officer said he was at the two schools on Wednesday and found that the headteachers had not reported by 8.15am.

Pupils were being rained on because all the classrooms were still locked, the DEO said.

Mr Mabale, who was visiting schools in the area to monitor how free primary education funds were being utilised, said that only a single teacher had reported at one of the schools.

Warning letters

“Deputy head teachers and all teachers in the two schools will be served with warning letters following the Wednesday incident as a warning to others who are doing the same,” the officer said.

Eleven primary school heads, he said, were demoted in the district last year due to various cases of indiscipline.

The mistakes included failing to deliver as expected, which contributed to schools performing poorly in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams.

During a meeting at Amagoro Primary School last week, leaders from the district resolved that the DEO sack all ineffective teachers.
