Gang storms Makueni hospital ward to kill patient

Five gunmen stormed a hospital in Makueni District and shot dead a patient who was admitted unconscious at the weekend.

The gangsters entered the Makindu sub-district hospital and demanded to be shown the ward in which a patient who was collected unconscious among four dead bodies at Tsavo National Park was admitted.

A guard at the hospital tried to stop the five men, saying they must first get permission from the doctor in charge. He called the doctor as the men forced their way into the ward.

At the ward, an argument ensued between the hospital boss and the guard on one side and the five men on the other. It was at this point that the gang ordered the hospital staff to lie down at gunpoint.

Infighting

“They went straight to the unconscious patient and shot him twice in the chest,” said a source at the hospital. Afterwards, the gang casually walked out and boarded a vehicle that had brought them to the hospital.

The shooting has confirmed fears by the police that the five people found in the national park on Saturday were victims of infighting between gang members.

The five were believed to have been attacked elsewhere then dumped at Kanga area which lies in Tsavo National Park between Mtito Andei and Voi.
