85 displaced families given land
Internally displaced families who were staying near Lake Ol Bolosat have been given land in Subukia.
Speaking to the Daily Nation on Tuesday, Central Western deputy provincial commissioner Wycliffe Ogallo said 85 families had been moved to Subukia, where they were settled on land recently bought by the government.
The move will pave way for an afforestation project planned for the riparian area under the Kazi kwa Vijana programme.
Another group of displaced families settled on sloppy sections of Aberdare Ranges were also moved to Subukia in Nakuru North constituency over fears of mudslides.
Last week, families earlier settled at Mawingo in Milangine District were ferried to Rongai in Nakuru District, where they were allocated land.
“We need to decongest Mawingo. The families now have a chance to start their lives afresh and rebuild them in a peaceful area,” the deputy PC said.
