Ministries ‘block’ bid to upgrade Nairobi

Nairobi Metropolitan Development minister Robinson Githae has blamed his Cabinet colleagues for frustrating efforts to modernise the city.
He spoke against the backdrop of rising criticism of the relevance of the ministry, whose focus for the last two years has been in churning out master plans and visions for a “world-class African metropolis”.
But Monday, Mr Githae accused the Nairobi City Council, which falls under the Local Government ministry, of sabotaging his efforts.
“We have now reported the matter to the Prime Minister’s Office for him to intervene as he is the supervisor and coordinator,” said Mr Githae.
Apart from the city council, the Ministry of Roads and the Ministry of Transport will also have a date with the PM to explain why they were “frustrating” Mr Githae’s docket.
Mr Githae told the Daily Nation that the Ministry of Roads was yet to get back to his ministry over a dedicated bus lane from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to Westlands.
“We wrote to them, but even with the road now under the National Highways Authority, we haven’t received a reply,” he said.
