A DNA test on a baby born out of defilement has proved that the accused sired the child.
A forensic scientist on Thursday told a Nyahururu court that laboratory tests showed that a man accused of defiling a 14-year-old girl was the father of the child.
Mr John Kimani, attached to the Government Chemist, told the court that the tests indicated that Mr James Muriithi Kibuchi is the father of the child and the 14-year-old complainant the mother.
Mr Kimani told principal magistrate Teresiah Matheka that the tests clearly indicated who a child’s father and mother were as every child bore 50 per cent generic inheritance traits from each parent.
The scientist was testifying in a case in which Mr Kibuchi, 30, has denied defiling the girl in Nyahururu Town on September 14, 2007, during which he is said to have impregnated her.
Ms Matheka commended the expert for the speedy issuance of results, adding that time had come for DNA results to be released promptly to enable justice to be seen to be done.
In another case, Mr Shem Mburu and his wife Martha Kiarie, who are entangled in a tussle with a Nakuru couple over a child’s parentage, will have to wait for the next two weeks after the scientist said the results were not yet ready.
