More than 300 jua kali boda boda mechanics have been given free training on motorcycle maintenance.

The one week training in Kakamega, Kisumu, Kitale, Bungoma, Mumias, Kisii Nairobi and Nakuru, was provided by listed company Car and General through Mr Vinod Nayak, the service manager of TVS Motor Company in India.

Car and General are the dealers for TVS motorcycles for East Africa. Mr Vijay Gidoomal, the C&G managing director said the firm also offered boda boda owners tips on road safety for themselves and their passengers.

Mr. Patrick Kithinji, the company’s parts and service manager, said the training of the mechanics covered electrical and fuel systems and fault diagnosis.

Hundreds of families displaced during the post-election violence are yet to return to their homes, a senior government official said on Saturday. Senior deputy PC in charge of Central Rift Valley Amos Gathecha said the larger Rift Valley was still volatile due to political disharmony.

He said those who had returned to their homes through Operation Rudi Nyambani programme were still too afraid to rebuild their houses. He was briefing members of the National Cohesion and Integration team after they paid him a courtesy call at his Nakuru office.
