Police in Malindi have launched a crackdown following a series of deaths through lynching or strangling.

Local police boss David Kerina said yesterday two suspects had been arrested over two deaths where a girl was slaughtered and a young man strangled last week.

On Tuesday, two young men were lynched after they were caught stealing a bed as residents went on a killing spree in Msabaha area.

In the past one and a half weeks, eight people have been murdered raising alarm in Malindi.

Getting out of hand

Mr Kerina told journalists in his office that the trend was getting out of hand and warned residents against taking the law in their hands.

“In the Msabaha incident, three suspects were caught stealing a bed. Residents raised an alarm and one of them, Eric Chengo, was cornered and lynched. The second one was caught in Kisumu Ndogo later in the day and also lynched. The residents are hunting for the suspect but I warn them strongly against killing other people,” he said.

Last week, a student Alex Kavuku, 24, was found dead at the seashore near the historical Vasco da Gama pillar in Malindi. Two days later, Philis Njoki, 20, was found murdered in Kisumu
