In Summary

  • Gangsters break into homes and attack families with pangas before carting away livestock and valuables

A trail of death and destruction has once again been visited on Nyabondo village in Nyakach District.

One person was killed and several people injured as armed raiders broke doors demanding money and valuables.

Mr Oonje Bodo was flushed out of his house by five youths and hacked to death before the gang attacked his wife, maiming her.

They then moved to neighbouring homes where they broke doors and cut people with pangas before vanishing into the darkness.

Hit man on the head

The Monday night attack came hot on the heels of the killing of a retired police officer and an elderly woman in unclear circumstances in the same area.

Local police boss Patrick Mbarire said the suspects beat up Mr Bodo, insisting that he must give them the money.

“The screaming couple attracted neighbours and on learning that their mission was about to fail, the gang hit the man on the head with a blunt object and he died on the spot,” said Mr Mbarire.

The assertion by Mr Mbarire that there could be a motive other than cattle raids has evoked fear among the residents.

The police chief accused the public of not volunteering information that would lead to the arrest of the suspects.

“We are asking members of the public who have information about the suspects to volunteer it, as we believe they were youths from the village,” he said.

A survey by Nation recently indicated that most people had decided to sell livestock and other valuables as they made them targets of the gangsters.

Very sad events ! World is like a crazy wild beast without any direction or moral qualities. Why ? I am looking for people interresred in Bible answers How will be our future ? and also: if God exists, why he do nothing? .The Bible answers these questions and many others.Do you know that it had spoken about our difficult period of time and about what is about to arrive ? Do you know that it explains God' promise of a new earth where " justice will dwell" I will be happy to answer yours questions.

ShManzar: I think that is it completely irresponsible and disgusting to quote percentages without solid facts to back it up. I know you are entitled your opinion but it never hurt to think before you post your mind.

ShManzar you make very ignorant remarks about Nyanza. Historically Central has had heinious acts committed there but nobody blames a sole individual like you do. Crime knows no boundaries nor communities. Communities that practice tribalism, locking others out of positions are worse than witches.

ShManzar, a woman who has lost a husband has a right to have another man in her life and this is what these women did. These men were not relatives of the dead husbands, something totally opposite of the requirements for wife inheritance in the Luo community. The two women should have known that for a man to move and cohabit with a woman who has children in her own house, there must be something terribly wrong. Inheritance in Luo community required that the man involved must be a family man. Have you understood or you are still thick?

90% of the news coming out of Nyanza is about crime, and evil goings on. Hardly much positive news comes from there. This is a very serious trend. It shows people are unoccupied, and have thus become bold on crime, idle minds do become devil's workshops. Where the Prime Minister? Can he please address matters at home and inculcate some decent values in people so that their contribution to society improves?
