Are you about to post a message on your Facebook page? Wait, and think again.

The message you post could land you in court — if it is meant to evoke ethnic hatred.

According to the chairman of the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, Dr Mzalendo Kibunjia, a hidden eye is watching you.

Social media — Internet sites such as Facebook and Twitter where thousands of Kenyans have signed up — is proving to be a headache for the national cohesion team.

According to Dr Kibunjia, some Internet users are using the sites to incite ethnic hatred.

“We have written to Facebook to alert them to be on the lookout,” he said on Thursday at the launch of a report titled “Enhancing the Practice of Conflict-Sensitive Approaches: An Analysis of the Kenyan Context” in Nairobi.

The commission, he added, will also seek the assistance of law enforcement agencies to curb the trend.
