Samuel Siringi, PhD

Dr Siringi is currently the Associate Editor, Daily Nation. Previously, he was Education Editor in the same newspaper. Siringi has also been Bureau Chief of the Nation Media Group in Kenya’s mid-western region of North Rift Valley, overseeing print and broadcast operations in Eldoret.

Siringi has written extensively on health, public service and education issues. In 1999, he received his B.Sc. in Information Sciences with a specialisation in Publishing and Media Studies from Moi University.

He continued his education at the University of Nairobi where he was awarded a Graduate Diploma from the School of Journalism in 2000, and then a Masters degree in Population Studies and Research from the University of Nairobi in 2006. He completed his PhD in Communication Studies from Moi University in 2012.

In 2008, he clinched the Alfred Friendly Press Fellowship and travelled to the U.S. for training on the program that places foreign journalists in American newsrooms for six months. Part of the programme takes fellows to the Poynter Institute for intensive journalism courses.

Siringi worked for various desks at the Kansas City Star. He also was the Daily Nation reporter at the Democratic and Republican Conventions in 2008.
