This was revealed during the DHL 5th annual Global Technology Conference held in Dubai in May.

During a plenary session titled "Rise of Africa", speakers from various African companies illustrated how they had successfully operated in various African markets.

The conference hosted some 300 delegates, who included DHL customers from leading global technology companies.

DHL is the world’s leading logistics service provider.

Under the theme "Connecting Markets, Trends and People", the conference covered the latest trends, innovations and solutions impacting the technology supply chain, with special focus on the Middle East and Africa as key regions of interest due to their high growth potential.

SUCCESS IN AFRICAN MARKETS

Speakers from several African companies illustrated how they have successfully operated in various African markets.

Of special interest was the technological advancements being experienced in Africa.

It is predicted that Internet usage through mobile phones will increase 20-fold in the next five years in Africa, which is double the rate of growth in the rest of the world.

"The technology sector is a highly dynamic industry and the pace of change is rapid,” said Rob Siegers, the DHL president of the Global Technology Sector.

He added that while growth in some of the traditional markets was slowing, emerging nations were gaining importance for technology companies, with Africa being of particular interest to many DHL customers.

The conference aimed at connecting customers with experts who are already successfully running their businesses in Africa.

“We had a team of logistics experts from across Africa on hand to facilitate knowledge sharing and networking, demonstrating that DHL is a strong partner to the technology sector across the continent,” said Charles Brewer, the managing director of DHL Express in Sub-Saharan Africa.
