What you need to know:

  • In his talk, Mr Muthaura is expected to shed light on financial instruments that could change how Kenyans invest in real estate.
  • Although no REITs have yet been issued in Kenya, several companies have been licensed as REIT managers by the Capital Markets Authority.

The acting chief executive officer of the Capital Markets Authority, Mr Paul Muthaura, will give a talk on Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) on Saturday, August 23.

The talk, which will take place at the iHub at 10:00 am, will happen during the Entrepreneurship Forum, hosted by Dr Bitange Ndemo.

The forum, which is a monthly gathering, aims to demystify current and emerging investment opportunities.

In his talk, Mr Muthaura is expected to shed light on financial instruments that could change how Kenyans invest in real estate, which is seen profitable, but out of the reach of most people, unlike stocks which require less money.

Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are instrument, similar to shares, which give investors a chance to earn income from real estate activities – such as rental income – without necessarily owning commercial property themselves.
