Tanzania’s Felix Mosha has been elected East African Business Council (EABC) chairman replacing Kenya’s Vimal Shah.

Speaking at the annual general meeting in Arusha, Mr Mosha said he has inherited a success and he hopes to continue working closely with governments from the East African Community.

Outgoing chairman, Mr Vimal Shah, will continue serving as a board member in the organisation.

KEY POSTS

Mr Mosha was an adviser to Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and he has also held key posts in his public life.

Other board members include Econie Nijimbere (Burundi), Ms Olive Kigongo (Uganda) and Denis Kabera (Rwanda).

“Currently, it is more expensive for one to travel within the region, say from Dar es Salaam to Kigali than to travel from Dar es Salaam to Dubai,” said Mr Mosha.

This makes the cost of doing business in the bloc high hence crippling the economy of the region, a scenario which he hopes to change during his term.

The EABC noted that it will also seek to eliminate non-tariff barriers within the region.
