The United States International University Africa has entered into a partnership that will see its pharmacy students undertake internship at a UK drugs company.

In a statement to newsrooms on Friday, GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) managing director, Mr John Musunga, said under the agreement, pharmacy programme students at USIU would benefit from the professional practical sessions at the drugs maker.

USIU–Africa vice-chancellor, Prof Freida Brown, noted that health systems all over the continent are vulnerable to epidemics such as Ebola that has so far infected 3,000 people in West Africa, hence the need to improve medical care through world-class training.

“I commend GSK for developing a trial vaccine for Ebola, I believe that the university’s collaboration with the multinational will enable students interact with the company’s experienced researchers,” Prof Brown said.

Students will also study manufacturing processes involved in developing GSK products in a framework assessed by staffers and programme faculty, she added.
