Irrigation board put on the spot

The National Assembly’s Public Investments Committee has directed the National Irrigation Board to provide a full list and implementation status of all irrigation projects that the board is undertaking within two weeks.

BREACH OF LAWS

The committee is probing a public petition that was presented to Parliament by Loima MP Protus Akuja that accuses former General Manager Daniel Barasa of financial mismanagement in implementation of about 14 irrigation projects in Turkana County.

Residents of Turkana, through the legislator had demanded investigations into alleged breach of procurement laws in the award of contracts for the projects.

Mr Mugambi Gitonga, the acting General Manager of the board defended it over claims that it flouted the procurement law in tendering for 14 irrigation schemes in Turkana County.
