Kenya Revenue Authority in bid to stop cheats

Kenya Revenue Authority has joined a regional alliance to help tackle tax evasion and avoidance.

The forum will allow the taxman to tap into cross border information as it seeks to promote transparency and exchange of information.

“Kenya is to undergo our phase II peer review early next year and will be rated for its compliance with the global standard on exchange of information request. There is a commitment to see Kenya implement the international standards as set out by the Global Forum,” commissioner general John Njiraini said.

Kenya is among 18 countries that constitute the steering group of the Global Forum which represents the interest of developing countries.

Entry of the country into the regional forum comes at a time when the revenue authority has undertaken steps to increase revenue collection, among them the introduction of an electronic tax payment system.
