Kenya seeks re-election to global telcoms board

  • The country has, consequently, proposed Mr Stanley Kibe to contest for a post on the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union, at the ongoing conference in Busan, South Korea.
  • Mr Kibe is the director of frequency spectrum management at the Communications Authority of Kenya and has served on the RRB board since 2010.

Kenya is seeking re-election to the board of the United Nations body which regulates the global telecommunication industry.

The country has, consequently, proposed Mr Stanley Kibe to contest for a post on the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union, at the ongoing conference in Busan, South Korea.

Speaking during a luncheon he hosted on the sidelines of the event, ICT Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said Kenya fully endorses Mr Kibe whose performance over the last four years has been outstanding.

Mr Kibe is the director of frequency spectrum management at the Communications Authority of Kenya and has served on the RRB board since 2010.

“We have experiences, knowledge and expertise to share, and in that vein, we humbly request for another opportunity to serve the union on the council and the Radio Regulations Board; Roles that have always been a humbling delight for us,” Mr Matiang’i said. 

The country is also eyeing re-election to the ITU governing council.

Speaking at the same luncheon, outgoing ITU secretary general Hamadoun Toure said Kenya’s ICT sector was very vibrant and worth emulating.
