Kenya keeps seat in the global club for telcos

Kenya has been re-elected to the board of the United Nations agency that regulates the global telecommunication industry.

The country will be represented in the Radio Regulations Board (RRB) of the International Telecommunication Union by Mr Stanley Kibe who was elected for a second term at the ongoing conference in Busan, South Korea.

Mr Kibe is the director of frequency spectrum management at the Communications Authority of Kenya and has served on the board since 2010.

The country was also re-elected to the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) governing council where it will serve for four years (2014 to 2018).

Information Communication and Technology Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i is leading the Kenyan delegation at the conference.

“I am very happy we have done this, team Kenya, a superb job. I would like to single out Communications Authority of Kenya Director-General Francis Wangusi and his team for being well organised, innovative and devising the winning strategy,” Mr Matiang’i said after the election.

Mr Houlin Zhao of China was elected the secretary-general of ITU. He replaces Dr Hamadoun Toure of Mali whose term has come to an end.
