One of Kenya’s Vision 2030 infrastructure projects has received a status boost after the African Union named it a presidential infrastructure champion initiative.

The Lamu Port Southern Sudan-Ethiopia Transport (Lapsset) project will now enjoy the attention of heads of states from seven African countries, with Nepad heads of states and government orientation committee required to account on progress and bottlenecks every six months.

Lapsset Corridor Development Authority Chief Executive Silvestre Kasuku said the Vision 2030 flagship project will be finished within scheduled time.
“This achievement is indicative of the government’s commitment to implement the project and open up vast parts of our country and region and also presents a realistic and solid opportunity for the delivery of the Lapsset projects while conferring the country a lifeline for economic growth support,” he said following a communiqué from the Nepad secretariat.

Lapsset joins over 51 development projects identified for implementation by 2040 hoped to improve interconnection and integration while bridging the continent’s infrastructure gap.
