New York Stock Exchange-listed marketing and communications firm Omnicom Group has joined forces with a local advertising company, Media Edge, to expand its reach in the regional market.

Redhouse Group Thursday announced the partnership between its advertising firm, Media Edge Interactive, and Omnicom’s subsidiary, BBDO. This move comes two years after BBDO entered the Kenyan market.

Redhouse Group chief executive officer Koome Mwambia said the deal was an affiliation agreement that would enable BBDO to use its global licence to manage its East Africa clients.

“With this licence, Media Edge becomes the agency of record and, therefore, responsible for all their commercial activities in this market,” Mr Mwambia said, adding that the pact does not constitute sale of a stake by Media Edge.

BBDO’s chairman and chief executive officer for Asia, Middle East and Africa, Mr Chris Thomas, said the partnership would provide the firm with access to greater resources, local talent and strong market insight as it seeks deeper penetration into other markets in the East African region.
