Narok County government has partnered with the Kenya Tourism Board to leverage on key global events hosted in the country as a platform to drive both domestic and international arrivals to Maasai Mara Game Reserve.

County executive for Tourism and Wildlife Nelson ole Keshei said this is one of the strategies to boost visitor numbers that have fallen sharply.

He said the new partnership will help in diversification of products to include sports, cultural and medical tourism in a bid to ensure a vibrant sector throughout the year.

KEY ANNUAL EVENT

“We have come together through the KTB Managing Director Muriithi Ndegwa so that we make sure that all key annual events held across the country have the potential to grow tourism, and will be used as a platform to market Maasai Mara as prime destination both locally and internationally,” Mr Keshei said.

He said the plan seeks to increase the number of tourists visiting the park annually from 300,000 to 700,000 by 2017.
