Information Cabinet Secretary Joseph Mucheru has appointed new board members to the Postal Corporation of Kenya (PCK) and revoked the contracts of five directors who had been appointed by his predecessor, Fred Matiang’i.

Mr Mucheru on Monday said the new appointments were driven by the need to find individuals with skills that can transform the organisation.

Appointees include Pauline Muthangani, Munyua Waiyaki, Simon Kiuta, Ibrahim Mohammed Salad and Mary Maingi.

The appointments took effect from May 31 and run for three years.

Former PCK board members whose contracts were revoked include Omar Said Soba, Celestine Okuta, Susanne Manyasi, Mary Basweti and Margaret Mucheru-Karuri.

“We want board members with the right skills that can help move the institution into the next level. Last week we launched a great innovation at the PCK and this is the direction we are taking,” Mr Mucheru said in a telephone interview.

The postal and courier sub-sector continues to contend with stiff competition from telecommunication that has continually launched new products and services, hiving market share from them and shrinking their growth prospects.

Mr Mucheru reckons that emergence of new markets through e-commerce will present a prime opportunity for the market to make a turnaround and begin to record greater growth as it provides physical delivery services for online transactions.
