The newly appointed Major General (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa on Thursday continued with the Immigration Department chats on Twitter started by his predecessor Jane Waikenda.

The retired general, who was appointed on August 20, tweeted for the first time using his new account @GKihalangwa welcoming tweeps to the #ImmigartionDeptLiveChat.

“Good morning, I will be having my first #LiveChat with you today alongside @ImmigrationDept. Thank you.”

He engaged in the live chat for six hours, responding to queries on the issuance of passports and receiving complaints about the immigration department.

Former Immigration Director Jane Waikenda started the online interactions with those seeking its services.

Ms Waikenda has been appointed deputy head of mission based in Pretoria, South Africa.

Mr Kihalangwa joins the department at a time when it is undergoing probe over the illegal issuance of work permits to foreigners.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) had been investigating Ms Waikenda for the alleged irregular award of 300 work permits to foreigners.

Mr Kihalangwa had a long career in the Kenya Defence Forces, previously serving as Head of the Military Police before he was elevated to Assistant Chief of Defence Forces responsible for personnel and logistics at Defence Headquarters.
