POSITIVE CHANGE

“The need for mature use of social media, especially on critical national issues, should be the driving force for this kind of awards,” he said.

“I encourage the winners and Kenyans at large to positively use their social media power for the good of this country.”

Kenya Social Media Awards director Martin Muli said that the 2014 edition had been a great success.

“It is indeed an honour to recognise and celebrate influential personalities on social media following great participation by Kenyans in the nomination and voting processes that are major ingredients for successful awards,” he said.

Entertainer and radio presenter Daniel “Churchill” Ndambuki took home the overall Personality-of-the-Year and the Most Influential Media Personality awards.

The awards also saw mobile platform @Ma3route recognised as the most influential SME while Unilever’ Aromat advertisement feted as the most creative campaign of the year.

The awards aim to showcase the critical role social media play in Kenya and calls on digital citizens to use their online influence to better the community, business and other areas in their spheres of influence.

The theme for this year’s awards was Making Social Media Work for You addressing the need to harness the various social media networks to grow our society.

“We look forward to expanding the awards to broaden the categories and reward Kenyans using the online space to leave a lasting mark,” Mr Muli concluded.
