Social entrepreneurs to benefit from Digital Bootcamp

Kenyan students seeking to boost their social entrepreneurship skills are set to benefit from the upcoming Digital Bootcamp.

Juzer Yunus who is a member of the New Economic Venture Accelerator (Neva) programme that supports emerging entrepreneurs by training and mentoring them says social media helps entrepreneurs reach the global market.

“In our programme we have trained over 200 young entrepreneurs, 150 of who are running sustainable businesses, our greatest emphasis has been on the adoption of social media for increased profits,” says Yunus.

Neva is a programme by the United States International University (usiu) Africa in Nairobi in collaboration with Colorado State University ‘s Institute for Entrepreneurship.

For Edwin Kariuki, the content manager at Neva, digital media enable social entrepreneurs to scale up their markets.

“Social media is the new vibe for those who want their businesses to remain relevant in the long run,” he adds.

Forbes top 50

Qualman who was ranked in the Forbes top 50 digital influencers will hold a two day conference at the Usiu from July 24, 2014 to July 25, 2014 with business people with an interest in making social media a profit driver and later take them through two webinars, six months after the conference, to guide them through the basics of digital media.

“This is not just for the people in business but also for individuals who hope to develop brands online and learn from the market leaders abroad on how to obtain profits from investing in online,” says Jane Murithii of Usiu.

Jane adds that organisations that have an online presence mostly use it for customer care services without realizing the potential it has in growing the companies’ profits.

“At the Boot Camp attendees will gain insightful knowledge on how to use digital media to build brand and company image, acquire digital leadership and manage brand reputation,” states Jane.

Socionomics founded by Qualman has helped grow the digital capabilities of many companies including Cadillac, EarthLink, EF Education, Yahoo, Travelzoo and AT&T.
