US to help Kenya pursue Westgate Mall attackers

The United States has offered to assist Kenya pursue the Westgate shopping mall attackers.
US Ambassador to Kenya Robert Godec on Wednesday said the US will continue to work together with Kenya to stop terrorism.
“At the request of the Kenyan government, we will provide additional assistance in the coming days to investigate this attack and to bring its organisers and perpetrators to justice,” he said in a statement.
So far, the envoy said, the Barack Obama-led administration has provided technical support and equipment to assist Kenyan security forces and medical responders.
He said Kenyans and Americans are united by shared values, and a commitment to peace and justice.
He added: “This attack will only serve to strengthen our resolve to defend our freedom, counter extremism, and promote tolerance everywhere. As it has for 50 years, the United States stands with Kenya."
BRUTAL ATTACK
He said the US is grateful for the extraordinary work of the Kenyan security and military personnel, medical providers, and the Kenyan Red Cross staff.
He said they displayed incredible courage and have earned our profound appreciation in their response to the brutal terrorist attack.
“Kenyans have demonstrated great solidarity, showing themselves to be a strong and resilient people, committed to one another and to the future of their country,” he said.
Mr Godec sent a message of condolence to families of victims.
At least 61 people as well as six members of the security forces were killed in the attack. Five terrorists were also killed and 11 others arrested.
