Wyndham Hotel Group has announced its plans to set up its first high-end property in Africa, as battle for high income market hots up.

With approximately 7,540 outlets worldwide, the hotel is set to put up a golf resort, conference centre and spa near Amboseli National Park.

This move is part of the hotel’s strategic plan to increase its footprint in the continent, having announced its intentions to set up Ramada Hotel in Nairobi, earlier this year.

The local outlet is expected to be in operation in 2017.

According to the firm’s regional vice-president for the Middle East and Africa, Mr Bani Haddad, this plan has been informed by the increasing demand for internationally renowned brands in the hospitality business.

“As Kenya’s economy continues to grow, demand continues to increase for internationally renowned, world-class brands in virtually all segments, from budget through to upscale and extended stay,” Mr Haddad said.

Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa, Mr Haddad noted, will be catering to leisure and business travellers while Ramada Nairobi would be welcoming business guests to the capital.

Wyndham Hotel Group will be well placed to cater to both international and domestic travel needs in Kenya, he said.

“Our vision for the 400-acre site was to create a new class of luxury resort incorporating not only world-class golf and spa but also a 300-delegate capacity, international conference centre as well as serviced plots for the development of private cottages,” chairman of Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa, Mr Anthony Monyo, said.
