KLM, Kenya Airways in joint sales deal

What you need to know:

  • The sales operations of the two airlines has now moved to a new building in Lavington; having been previously based at Embakasi.

Dutch airline KLM, which owns slightly more than a quarter of Kenya Airways (KQ), is set to link up its local and regional sales operations with those of the national carrier, in a cost-cutting move to safeguard its profit margins.

The link-up means the sales people of the two airlines will market their flights jointly.

“The joint approach will bring customers of the two airlines such benefits as joint offering of an expanded network, with much more combinability and beyond destinations via various hubs,” said KLM general manager for eastern Africa Dries Klein in an interview.

The hubs include Nairobi, Amsterdam, Paris and London. KLM has a 27 per cent equity stake in KQ.
