Fifty Kenyan companies in the hospitality and travel business will attend this year’s World Travel Market exhibition, the biggest travel event in the industry.

The Kenyan delegation is among 5,000 suppliers of travel and tourist products and services who will discuss the latest trends at the WTM forum now in its 34th year.

Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) managing director Muriithi Ndegwa said the country will use the opportunity to reassure global investors that Kenya is a safe destination despite recent cases of terrorist attacks.

“This is a chance for us to rebuild confidence among world traders and potential tourists on our country’s resilience,” Mr Ndegwa said.

He also pointed out that this is a perfect time for Kenya to showcase niche products as the country celebrates its 50th anniversary. Kenyans plan to display products in the areas of culture, meetings, conventions and exhibitions, adventure, the coast, sports safaris, eco-tourism among others.

“We have to market Kenya’s unique and diversified tourism products to consumers, trade and the media all over the world and to promote Kenya’s new routes and products focusing on diversity and unique undiscovered attractions,” he added.

Cabinet Secretary for East African Affairs, Commerce and Tourism Phyllis Kandie, and KTB’s boss Muriithi Ndegwa will lead the Kenyan delegation for the event which takes place in London starting today and ending Thursday this week.

The Kenya tourism stand themed ‘the best of Kenya’ will focus on the hospitality of the Kenyan people and the resilience of the country in the wake of insecurity fears and recent terrorist attacks.

“The World Travel Market has come at a time when Kenya’s tourism industry is on an upward momentum, having had peaceful elections, and withstood the shocks associated with the fire at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and the terror attack at Westgate Mall,” Mr Ndegwa noted.

Staged every year in London, World Travel Market is a four-day business-to-business event presenting a diverse range of destinations and industry sectors to UK and International travel professionals.

WTM provides a unique opportunity for the whole global travel trade to meet, network, negotiate and conduct business under one roof.

United Kingdom is Kenya’s leading market in tourism arrivals and WTM looks to strengthen Kenya’s distribution channel in the UK market and to give Kenya’s travel trade a platform to conduct business with international trade and consumers.
